PRIVACY
Privacy Policy
Effective October 16, 2026. PianoTera uses only the account information needed to provide sign-in, profiles, and saved activity.
Information we collect
When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, profile image, account identifier, and account creation date. We store practice history and scores. You may optionally add a display name, uploaded profile photo, MBTI, zodiac, country, gender, and date of birth. Ranked Mode records MIDI note timing, pitch, velocity, and release events so PianoTera can verify the score. While a signed-in PianoTera tab is visible, we keep a short-lived online time; while a song is running, we also keep that song's identifier. When you are signed in and open another pianist's profile, we record that visit and when it happened. We keep notifications about follows, likes, comments, mentions and visible profile visits for up to 90 days. When you send a request, report, or message, we store what you write, the email address you give (if any), your account if you are signed in, and for bug reports your browser name; to limit spam from signed-out visitors we keep only a one-way code made from the network address, never the address itself.
Account access and abuse prevention
The song library, song information, help and policy pages are available without signing in. Playing songs or using app features requires an account. To limit automated requests and spam, Cloudflare keeps temporary counters keyed by one-way codes derived from your network address, account identifier or sign-in email. These codes rotate daily and are not added to your public profile.
How you found PianoTera
On your first visit, your browser keeps a small note on your own device: the website or app that sent you (only its name, like instagram.com), any campaign tag in the link, and the page you arrived on. It is not sent anywhere unless you create an account; then it is saved once with your new account so we know which places bring new pianists. We use no advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts.
How we use it
We use this information to authenticate you, keep your progress, display features you choose to make public, protect the service, provide support, and operate PianoTera. We do not sell personal information.
Sharing and service providers
Information is processed by infrastructure and authentication providers needed to run PianoTera, including Cloudflare; Google or Facebook when you choose that sign-in method; and our transactional email provider when you choose email sign-in. We disclose information when required by law or to protect the service and its users.
Your choices
Your name, profile photo, country, days joined, and current Online status are public. Profile details, follower count, and following count are public by default, and you can hide them separately in Settings → Privacy. Earlier Practice history choices still control public profile history and song presence. Ranked scores, names, and photos remain public because they are part of the monthly competition. A profile visit is shown only to the pianist you visited and in your own Visited list; set Profile visits to Hide to stop recording your visits from then on (earlier visits stay); you can still see who visited you. You may remove optional fields or request access, correction, or deletion through our contact form.
Private chat
Messages are available between mutual followers (Partners) and active coach–student links when both accounts allow messages. Conversations, voice messages and shared practice cards are visible only to their participants. Microphone access starts only when you choose to record. You can listen before sending; unsent audio remains on your device. Sent audio is stored separately, and requires an authorised account to play. Sharing a practice result is your choice and does not make the rest of your history public. You can mute a conversation, disable messages, block an account, remove your own messages, or clear your own conversation history; clearing your history does not delete the other person's copy. Messages are available for 365 days, after which expired records are removed in small background batches. A report includes the selected message and up to three earlier messages, retained for up to 90 days after reporting and available only to authorised reviewers. Messages use encrypted transport but are not end-to-end encrypted. Coaches cannot read your conversations with other people. Known accounts under 13 cannot send private messages.
Voice rooms and Play Together
Room messages and round results are visible to participants in that room. Finished Play Together scores are also saved in your private My results history, with the song, play mode, speed, input and date. This history remains after the room ends and is retained while your account is active. It is separate from public Practice history and Ranked scores. We do not save microphone recordings as Play Together performances.
Shop gifts
Playful Gifts temporarily decorate a room profile; the uploaded photo is unchanged. We store the recipient’s receiving choice, dismissals and gift delivery timing to operate the queue. MIDI profile bursts run locally without sending additional notes to the server. Gift receipts identify the sender, recipient and purchased item to those accounts. Sticker gifts sent in a voice room appear as one illustrated announcement in that room’s chat. Gifts on a Moment show recent sender, recipient and item names to viewers who can see that post. New private Chat sticker gifts are unavailable; earlier receipts stay private. A cosmetic appreciation level, based on delivered sticker spending, is public beside your name; your exact total is visible only to you. Monthly gift leaderboards show the total original Coin value of delivered stickers sent or received, including earlier Chat gifts. They never show private recipients, conversations, room identities or individual gift prices. Missions use saved activity and verified public hosting rounds to grant account-bound cosmetics. The three-sticker frame exchange has ended. Earlier exchanges and earned frames are retained; their receipt links stay private. No one can buy a view of another pianist’s practice: Progress View was removed on 25 October 2026.
Payments and referrals
Mayar processes Plan and Coin payments. We store payment identifiers, verified amounts, payment status and account links to deliver purchases and handle refunds. If you apply an affiliate code, we associate it with your Plan order. If you sign up through an affiliate's link or enter their code, your account stays linked to that affiliate for 30 days so they are credited if you buy your first Plan in that time; affiliates only see how many people signed up and bought, never who. Affiliates see their code, anonymous sale amounts, commission and bonus status, without buyer names, email addresses or practice history. Optional affiliate receiving details, QR images and withdrawal messages are private to you and authorised payment operators. Withdrawals are transferred manually; converted amounts require your agreement. On account deletion, written instructions and withdrawal conversations are removed and access to receiving QR images is revoked. Private QR files may remain with financial records for payment reconciliation. Referral links use a visible code; they do not add a tracking cookie. Financial receipts and one-way first-purchase identifiers may remain after account deletion to reconcile payments, refunds and commissions and prevent duplicate benefits; contact details on affiliate orders and payout instructions are removed.
Retention and security
We retain account information while your account is active and as reasonably needed for security, legal obligations, and dispute resolution. We use access controls, encrypted transport, and encrypted platform secrets, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Children and changes
PianoTera is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires parental consent, a parent or guardian must provide it. We may update this policy as the service develops and will change the effective date above.
